2021 Take Out Challenge Event Launches in Saskatoon

MEDIA RELEASE

For Release April 30th, 2021

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE PROGRESS CLUB SASKATOON DOWNTOWN

    2021 Take Out Challenge Event

2021 Take Out Challenge Launches in Saskatoon

The goal of the event is to raise funds for several local non-profits, as well as increase sales and provide valuable exposure and promotion for 12 locally-owned restaurants in Saskatoon. Each of the participating restaurants in 2021 has also committed to donating 800 meals to Saskatoon’s Friendship Inn.

History Of Take-Out Challenge Event

In 2020 we were very aware that the restaurant industry was being particularly hard hit by the Covid 19 public health restrictions,  and that has continued over the course of the pandemic. In addition, non-profits had to cancel, and have been unable to reschedule key fundraising events. This has severely impacted the ability to cover their operational costs and in many cases, they are struggling to fund the important work done in our community. The Canadian Progress Club Saskatoon Downtown wanted to do what they could to help.

Last year’s inaugural Take Out Challenge event was extremely successful. In ‘The Celebrity Challenge’ portion of 2020’s event  18, local celebrities stepped up to partner with the restaurants and worked hard to raise awareness and increase sales. Thanks to the restaurants, celebrities and event sponsors, we raised almost $60,000 for numerous local non-profits,  over 4,000 meals were donated to the Friendship Inn, and the locally owned restaurant partners increased their sales and local brand awareness.

The event committee is excited to announce our plans for an even more successful 2021 event. The event will run from May 4th through June 20th, 2021.

Take Out Tuesdays In May

‘Supporting Locally Owned Restaurants Who Support Our Community.’

How Will It Work?

Each Tuesday in May, starting May 4th, we will be encouraging Saskatoon to order takeout from our local restaurant partners. Every Tuesday on a bi-weekly rotation we will be promoting 6 of the 12 restaurants supporting the event. We will be sharing social media posts with information about the restaurants and links to order delicious, local food prepared with care.

By ordering on Take-Out Tuesday, the public is showing their support and appreciation for these 12 locally-owned restaurants that have stepped up to support our community. Each restaurant partner has committed to providing 800 meals to the Friendship Inn, as well as donating 15% of all gift cards sold during the ‘Celebrity Challenge’ portion of the event which happens in June! |

Celebrity Challenge In June

‘Local Celebrities Teaming Up To Support Local Restaurants & Non-Profits.’

In 2021 we are enlisting 24 local celebrities.

The celebrities will be sorted into 12 teams of 2, and each team will partner with one of the restaurants. Between June 4th – June 20th the celebrities are challenged to drive as many gift card sales as possible for their restaurant partner. 15% of ALL Gift Card sales in this period will go to our local non-profit partners. The celebrities will also strive to increase the social likes of their restaurants as much as possible.

2 winners will be announced at the end of the challenge.
